VIP Passes
are worth their weight in fish (the Icelandic equivalent of gold—it’s even on the money). Small venues=long lines. Headline shows can mean two to three hour-long waits in the Icelandic weather. Be prepared!
You don’t need a ticket to enjoy Airwaves
There is an off-venue program that’s free. You’ll see most of the same artists, hang with more locals. Check venues like KEX for secret shows.
Dress to impress the fashion conscious locals
Also, dress in layers, it’s cold outside and hot inside.
Go Northern Lights hunting
While never a guarantee, most clear nights outside of the city will yield a magical green glow. Sign up for the National Space Weather Alerts to watch out for geomagnetic storms.
Hot spring away your hangover
Try Reykjavík’s hot pots. The largest is Laugardalslaug, a bit out of town. Right in the city center is Sundhöll, a labyrinth of changing rooms and a 101 classic. Soak with the locals at Vesturbæjarlaug, a charming set of pots near the west end. Of course the Blue Lagoon Chill is always a great option.
Buy your booze at the airport
That’s what the locals do! It’s expensive here to drink, but that’s not stopping anyone.
