Getting There
Jinja is about a three-hour drive from the Entebbe International Airport in southern Uganda, and you can rent a car upon your arrival. If you're staying in Kampala, Jinja is a straight shot on the freeway, about two hours away. If you need amenities while at the event, festival grounds are only a five minute drive from the city center, which boasts spacious, tree-lined roads and Indian-style colonial-era architecture.
Language
English and Swahili are Uganda's official languages, so communicating with locals won't be a problem.
Where to Stay
Bring your own tent and camp free of charge on festival grounds or rent out camping accommodations. If camping isn't your jam, you can stay at a hotel in town for under $20 a night.
Touristy Things To Do
As if Nyege Nyege didn't have enough fun activities to offer, Jinja is known to many as the "adventure capital" of East Africa. That means there are plenty opportunities for outdoor fun: mountain biking, white water rafting, bungee jumping, and more.
Modest Dress Recommended
Uganda is a fairly conservative country with a largely Christian population. To respect local customs and avoid getting strange looks from locals, women should strive to dress on the modest side. Short skirts and shorts are somewhat taboo (though not prohibited), so it's better to opt for something below-the-knee when possible. In September, Jinja has temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Bring practical, comfortable attire since you’ll be camping and playing outdoors.
