Take a ride to Mount Rushmore
With Mount Rushmore just an hour's drive away and the Badlands less than two hours, there's some remarkable visuals you'll experience in this rugged part of the world.
You don't have to ride a Harley
While more than half of all bikes are Harley, you'll see all kinds of different models, although the Harley enthusiasts are center stage. You don't even have to come to town on a bike, but you do have to appreciate motorcycles (or people-watching) or you'll be bored silly. Check out the National Motorcycle Museum in Sturgis.
Be prepared for serious traffic
When you get to Sturgis, you'll feel like you're in Time Square. It's packed. But, even within fifty miles of the rally, the roads get clogged and a quiet, serene part of America feels like it's been paved over and congested. Be prepared for lots of law enforcement overseeing the roads.
Getting There
If you're flying in from far away, the closest major airport is in Denver, 400 miles from Sturgis. The closest commercial domestic airport is in Rapid City, just over 40 miles away. But, far and away, the most impressive way to arrive is on a motorcycle.
